From Solvay Chemical to Solvay Business School – Lets start a new executive master (in Cybersecurity)

Throughout my career, I have supported companies with a purpose. I believe that my contributions should be part of something bigger—making an impact that goes beyond profit.
For three years, I dedicated my energy, time, skills, and passion to a company close to my heart: Solvay.

Even though I have now left (and keep good memories), the values rooted in the vision of its founder, Ernest Solvay, continue to inspire me. As he once said: “Learning is the foundation of progress, for only through understanding can we create a better future.”

Now, I am embarking on a new journey inspired by that same spirit of continuous learning. Earlier this week, I began a Master’s in Cybersecurity.

Why Cybersecurity? While it may not be the area that energizes me most, I recognize its critical importance. Cyber threats are keeping leaders awake at night and, in some cases, devastating companies.

Consider these examples:
— Maersk, a global shipping giant, was paralyzed by the NotPetya attack in 2017, leading to over $300 million in losses.
— British Airways and Boots suffered a significant cyberattack in June 2023, exposing sensitive employee data due to flaws in MOVEit Transfer software.
— Schneider Electric, a French multinational, experienced a breach in October 2024, with hackers demanding a ransom after accessing 40 GB of sensitive data.
— Duvel Moortgat, the renowned Belgian brewery, faced a ransomware attack in 2022 that disrupted operations for weeks.

These incidents demonstrate how cybersecurity challenges ripple across industries, affecting operations, reputations, and even entire economies.

For every digital product, IT application, or piece of technology, security must be integrated by design. It should not hinder or slow down innovation but rather be an essential part of it

I am excited to explore this field through my Master’s program and to uncover how I can better advise and lead organizations on navigating these challenges.
