Reflections from My Mission to India with Ramboll
I recently embarked on a one-week mission to India—specifically Chennai, Delhi, and Hyderabad—on behalf of Ramboll, a leading Danish engineering company. The primary goal of my visit was to assess the current state of our digital delivery center and provide recommendations for improvement. However, my mission quickly evolved to include a comprehensive review of our product, digital, and automation capabilities. This trip offered me valuable insights, which I’d like to share:
- Finding Structure in Perceived Chaos: What might initially seem chaotic often has its own underlying structure. By stepping back and analyzing the situation, one can uncover the processes, rules, and ways of working that drive it.
- Embracing Humility and Innovation: In the Western world, we often take our mature standards and systems for granted. However, we must remain humble and innovative. The competitive edge is frequently found in the ambition and ingenuity of others who may be more driven than we are.
- Impressive Engineering Talent: India graduates over 800,000 engineers annually. This sheer volume is a testament to the country’s growing talent pool and its potential impact on global engineering and technology.
- Understanding Before Solving: Before diving into solutions, it’s crucial to engage with as many stakeholders as possible. Analyzing recurring problems and understanding the corporate culture helps tailor solutions effectively, as the same issues might require different approaches depending on the context.
- The Power of Vision and Strategy: Communicating a clear vision and strategy can significantly boost excitement and engagement among teams. It aligns everyone’s efforts and fosters a sense of purpose.
This mission was an eye-opener, highlighting both the complexities and opportunities within a
rapidly evolving market. The insights gained will be invaluable as we continue to enhance our digital and engineering practices
